Ka-Son Reeves
Edgewater, NJ

Media:Painting; Drawing;

ARTIST STATEMENT: Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Ka-Son Reeves grew up cultivating his natural artistic ability by watching the creative processes of his father–a portrait artist–and his eldest brother–a local Graffiti artist. Having received no formal art training, they instead were his artistic teachers and technical advisors. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Design. After years employed as a Graphic and Web Designer, he started IHNIGMUH LLC, a graphic design studio specializing in print and web design and development.

Now revisiting his passion, he experiments and expresses himself as a painter using the acrylic medium. Over the past year his artwork has been featured in numerous galleries in the Poconos and New York. He has recently participated in a juried exhibition at Long Island University’s Salena Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, honoring filmmaker Spike Lee, and has displayed his work at the NAACP Centennial Convention in New York City.

Most recently he was commissioned as a courtroom sketch artist for the Pocono Record Newspaper.

He is a member of the Pocono Arts Council and ARTSPACE Gallery.

“My art represents the myriad spirit and emotion of urban life, with an emphasis on LIFE, as seen through my eyes, imagined in my mind and felt in my heart. That Life in my art is not limited to any one physical location, but expanded upon in an attempt to embrace a universal perspective.

“When I sit down to paint or draw, I try hard not to think with the idea of what one may consider acceptable, or what another may feel is appropriate. I just try to apply my artistic knowledge and experience to recreate what’s in my mind, whether it’s through sheer imagination or direct and indirect experience. I do believe a colorful imagination, experience, knowledge and a mind open to receive more are principal in helping to nurture artistic growth, and that is what I try to apply in my work.”
