ARTIST STATEMENT: This body of work is a reconstruction of the energy resulting from the over saturation of media, both visual and printed. It is a visual representation of the proliferation of media in contemporary society and the resulting cacophony of mixed messages it engenders. The goal of my work is to dissect, neutralize and reassemble found printed media to create cohesive images that discuss relevant issues of contemporary society, thus adding a human element to the chaos of these images. These printed materials are extracted from their original context to create a montage of broken conversational chatter about a theme or subject. The fragments mimic the wires, circuits and chips that run the information through the systems that produce these mass-produced images. They imitate their forms, often overlapping, buttressing each other like the information streams presented on television, radio and online. The information is fluid and the lines represent the flow of this media decadence. As a painter my goal is to unify this energy to discuss the larger picture.
