ARTIST STATEMENT: As an artist, I attempt to capture through the use of sculpture, painting, and photography a moment in time that reflects our humanity.
I endeavor to create compelling works of art that make “artistic” commentaries that are representational of whatever is going on in the world. In particular the environment, politics, and the social issues from the past, and that are still reflective of today’s society, i.e., the murders of Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, and Eric Gardner to unfortunately, name a few. To the environmental disaster of lead in the drinking water in Flint, Michigan, and the invalidation of key sections of the Voting Rights Act.
It is my hope that through introspection and communication, we as humans can create innovative solutions that can help us to discern and celebrate our similarities and our diversities, while we work together to create a more humane society. My artwork speaks, not just for me, but for people who were long ago silenced.
