ARTIST STATEMENT: In all the media I have in-depthly explored: choreography, drawing, bottle cap tapestries, and most recently, paper mobiles, I have discovered parallels in the artworks that have emerged. My obsessive eye for detail due to a 20+ year career in picture framing and art restoration, coupled with extensively studying classical ballet and piano in my youth, often locks me into the pursuit of perfectionism and technical precision. Conversely, my experiences as a post-modern dancer have opened me up to the thrill that can be found within improvisation and how letting go of control can open up windows into the collective unconscious. This has resulted in highly conceptual visual and performance works that can be challenging because of their abstraction, but made accessible in the choice of materials or context. Various works have been described by viewers as having dark whimsy and delightful contradictions.
