ARTIST STATEMENT: My work is about the investigation of mind thru art. We cannot avoid thoughts, but through awareness of our pitfalls, beauty, strengths and weaknesses we can open windows into the mind. The process of my contemplative art practice is to visually embody our blind spots as a result of our thoughts, studying how the mind works as a means of gaining insight into how we create identity through form, emotions and consciousness, and how we hide in that creation.
Being abstract with facial form as reference point gives the images a common intimacy. The images evolve from within themselves, unfolding experiments and reactions of unpredicted developments. Fluctuating somewhere between painterly and graphic using every finger print, wrinkle, rip, drip or tear as a textured patterned language of mind. The work feels experimental resisting finality like indications of possibilities much like the impermanence of life. The work and text has a sense of community, a universal benefit beyond the boundaries of the image into mind. When we know the nature of mind and our obscurations we’ll know the nature of our world.
