Neighborhood: Canarsie

Media:Pastel;

ARTIST STATEMENT: Artist Bio Painter and Drawer Ebony Thompson is an artist from Freetown, Sierra Leone, in West Africa. His work is usually in earth tone colors on canvas or illustration board. He has used his art to communicate the ebb and flow of the African diaspora's experiences in America as well as his position on social issues that affect people of African descent. His intent is to initiate dialogue and stimulate thoughts as you view his work. Ebony developed his passion for Art since he was four years old while he was learning to write his name with pencil. He specializes in the use of oil, pastel, pencils and some acrylic paint. Merging those mediums on canvas and creating appealing art can be challenging but worthwhile. Expressing the effect of light on his character has become his signature. He loves to call images out of darkness or show their transition from darkness into light which also is a parallel to the ebb and flow in his life in Freetown, Sierra Leone and what he has grown to know as his world in the United States of America. Ebony's art work has been displayed in several galleries in New York City, including the Red Wall at the Jacob Javits Center and Kalahari Gallery. Ileadbydesign. Ebony Thompson.
