Jessica Capone
brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Williamsburg

ARTIST STATEMENT: Jessica is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. She was born in La Spezia, Italy in 1984. She works in the mediums of painting, pottery, and sculpture. By emphasizing texture in her artwork, Jessica finds that this movement reveals an awkwardness that echoes our own human vulnerabilities. Her mixed media works are inspired by formal associations, from which she takes a lyrical, evolving approach to their representation. Questioning the concepts of structure and form, she seduces the viewer into a world of inversion, challenging their understandings of physical shapes through the use of metals and metallic colors. Her works isolate the unexpected intersection of nature and culture. She strives to encapsulate the disconcerting beauty that emerges from unforeseen interactions in the world. By focusing on these moments of tension, she tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based only on subjective associations and parallels, inciting the viewer to make personal associations.
