ARTIST STATEMENT: Music, particularly jazz has always been a major influence on my work. The improvisational nature of jazz strikes a chord within me, as well as its ability to evoke such emotion while seemingly coming from an unknowable world. These qualities are magical to me and I want those qualities to resonate in my paintings. In my work I strive to create a cultural form of memory using what I term visual reasoning. Color like music has the same ability to evoke emotion but color doesn’t come from an unknowable world, color is very visible.
