ARTIST STATEMENT: Design is for the ambitious, writing for the expressive and art for the struggling. I believe that as humans, we all express ourselves but the extent to which we do so depends on where we land on the socioeconomic spectrum of humanity. Design and great writing exists everywhere but true contemporary art exist mostly at the pits of society in the most underserved of communities. My work represents the struggle and pain we must endure to break through glass ceilings in an unequal society. It also embodies the faith and hope we possess that propels us to move forward. As a graduate of psychology, I enjoy creating works that will be memorizing to the observer and attempt to incite a reaction whether it is through painting, photography, digital illustration or a combination of all three. In contemporary art there is no one answer to the world’s problems but many if one were to look deep enough.
I express my feelings and emotions in my work and try to spend as little time absorbing the work of others in order to stay pure as an artist. Purity as an artist is important in modern art because it is what allows for the creation of new artistic movements. I have very little friends in art and rarely discuss about art in conversations; to me creativity springs from having many references to pull from and actually there are studies that support this view. I am inspired by many things and draw from this list when creating. I create because at times there is no other way to connect with another individual.
