Adela Wagner
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Crown Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: Adela Wagner is New York–based photographer, visual activist and lighting designer. In her projects she transforms contemporary social issues, such as violence against women, refugee crisis and human rights, into mainly photographic visual concepts with which she hopes to incite debate, questions and raise awareness to contribute to change. Taking a step beyond challenging the ingrained convictions, her projects also include interactive elements inviting the viewers to participate in a discussion, in that way enriching the final shape of the artwork. Each body of work incorporates collected fragments of the participatory piece and integrates them as equally valid components of its final shape. Acknowledging the growing importance of technology and social media, she uses various platforms to connect her art with the viewers (among exhibitions also social media campaigns, public art and social engagement initiatives), and to display the results of her multiple-layered art projects.
