ARTIST STATEMENT: As a blossoming child, my shyness allowed me to detach for present moments and live in the comfort of my imagination. In this intangible space, I was allowed to do and be anything my mind could conjure. My vivid imagination even convinced the conscious me that I was a fairy and needed to hide my wings from friends and family. This creative freedom continues to be crucial to my art practice.
My artistic process derives primarily form observation. I observe people with the reckless abandon that most watch animals and nature. I carefully study gestures, interactions and reactions. I have begun to position myself through the energy of nature and deep reflection.
Inspiration comes from absorbing ideas from vintage fashion magazines, cartoons and foreign music. As a global citizen with tri-citizenship, much of my social commentary reflected in my art comes from feminism and my experience identifying as a woman. Connecting woman with nature to reincarnate their primal, instinctual self, seems to be developing as a prevalent undertone of my work.
Through the mediums of photography, burgeoning fashion design and print/book making, I find the balance required to execute my creativity accurately and vividly.
Photography is a key component as to how I express and control my ideas. It has allowed me to explore relationships between subjects and their surroundings. This corresponds to my extensive travel as a tri-citizen. Acquiring this balance is delicate, as it is earned by genuinely solving issues and creating new ambitions within my present self as an artist.
