Diane Miller
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Park Slope

ARTIST STATEMENT: My work is a combination of printmaking, papermaking and collage. I print intaglios, collagraphs and monotypes on a variety of Japanese papers ranging from delicate, nearly transparent papers to textured, fibrous ones. I use these prints as raw materials to be collaged over my own handmade papers, sometimes in many layers. This method allows me to create highly textured images with depth of space. My work is strongly influenced by Japanese screens and Chinese landscape paintings of the Song dynasty. Works from these cultures are both deeply observant of nature and also abstract, sensitive to space, light, movement and textures of the natural world. These are qualities I try to emulate, without being directly representational. For more information about my methods, please see my website,
