ARTIST STATEMENT: I collage materials that have been through people’s hands.
I rip, tear, cut, and sand what would otherwise be waste from our daily routines into commentaries on the identity of the person from which the detritus originated. My work engages with the tradition of collage by utilizing the mediums diverse historical processes to create a materially visceral record of modern activity in an increasingly digitally oriented world were such material is disappearing before us. As the material for my work originates from specific peoples activities I also aim for my work to be a snapshot of one’s personal identity as seen through the remains of their engagements with their surroundings.
