Previously fascinated by structures in the process of being erected (including construction sites), I have more recently focused on the downside of the building cycle: collapsing buildings, deteriorating war bunkers, detritus left from earthquakes, wild fires and wars. I believe there will be no shortage of inspiration in the near future. Also, I find comfort in humble materials (e.g., concrete, rebar, lumber) and have been exploring their physical, sociological and political uses. Resourceful Palestinians have recently recycled rubble from their own destroyed infrastructure and parts of the Separation Wall to create a sewage treatment plant in one example of improbable transcendence.
