ARTIST STATEMENT: My paintings will have to speak for themselves because I don’t know how to talk about them. They’re mysteries to me. When I start a painting, I don’t have a goal—I don’t set out to make something pretty. The paintings tell me what to do and what they need, including the palette, which is always limited. You have to hunt for the colors. I suppose they’re more precious that way, just like everything else in the painting that is revealed only after some time and effort.
