Earl Black
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Park Slope

Media:Painting; Pastel; Ink;

ARTIST STATEMENT: My art combines brushwork, color, line and shape to create works that are emotionally charged and idiosyncratic. My current series, "Views of Gowanus", depicts a hard scrabble Brooklyn neighborhood -- post-industrial, verdant and wild -- between gentrified Carroll Gardens and Park Slope.

ARTIST RESUME:

Brooklyn Folk Artist Earl Black (b.1945) combines brush work, color, line and shape to create works that are emotionally charged and idiosyncratic. His subjects are informed both by his upbringing on rural Kauai ("The Garden Isle") and his adulthood as a denizen of NYC -- innocence and urbanity juxtaposed.
