Despo Magoni
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Brooklyn Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: Preoccupied with the human condition, I have used the human figure and head for their unlimited expressive potential to explore social issues, and to a larger degree women’s issues, inspired by myth, history, and current events. In my paintings, books, sculpture, and works of paper I blend the personal with the collective, the inner with the outer, and the past with the present. Themes of growth, mortality and the process of grieving are also expressed in my work. Lately, I have been working in a more abstract manner, and have related this new visual language to the themes of science, Labyrinth and the Cosmos.
