Daniel Mirer: In The Finest Tradition. "...In his previous series, ArchitorSpace, the artist sought to expose the banality of modernist architectural spaces. In this series Titled “In The Finest Traditionâ€, the photographs applies the structural principles of his architectural images to portraiture. The men within the photographs occupying these architectural spaces become periodic in the display and pageantry of the uniform they are wearing. These subjects become extensions of the space itself, lending a specific geometry to the finished image. The images are intended to be of male archetypes, exhibiting extremely masculine roll play or career choices, such as military men, cowboys, police, showing the pageantry of the uniform. The photographs are reconstituting identities through the uniform. These images succeed in their traditional codes of representation and the institutions that govern these codes of maleness and the uniform. These photographs represent a conscious desire to (re) inscribe the corporeal figure at the same time confronting the implicit system in representations of the male body. Throughout the series, there are boys pretending to be men and men who are really still boys at heart. It is a psychological study of the male psyche, and what it means to be a man in today’s society.
