Marie A Roberts
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Coney Island

ARTIST STATEMENT: I consider myself to be a painter who draws. Among the things I paint are the Sideshow banners for Coney Island USA, the not for profit arts center located in the heart pf the Coney Island amusement district. While I love exhibiting in art galleries it is very cool to exhibit on the corner of West 12th Street and Surf Avenue. It is a wonderful opportunity to make paintings for the place where my family and I are from, it is wonderful to work with living performers and a live show. I have always loved what Toulouse Lautrec and Sharuku did with their connections to theater; sideshow banners are my connection with my present and my past.
