Jason H Covert
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Prospect Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: My work is built upon the universal foundation of the inevitable occurrence of loss and how that impacts us as individuals and a species.
My work serves as a lens through which the viewer's attention is refocused on the losses we all face - be that in dealing with the loss of our cultural identities, our gender identities, the very literal loss of information (digital or otherwise) or through the ultimate loss experienced via death.
The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Jason Covert's Excavation is an ultra-personal exploration of one man's fears and psychic wounds. It is a systemic consideration of the archetypal struggles we might all face. It's a memoir of sorts, but a memoir that addresses universal issues, meant to read like a mirror. By way of mythic conceits and symbolic imagery you're invited to peer into the mind of a man compelled to share his darkest depths, be that with his very blood or the ashes of his father before him. Though some may find the journey uncomfortable to watch, one thing is certain: it will leave no viewer untouched.
