ARTIST STATEMENT: This installation is a statement about environmental sustainability. It presents a vision of nature's revenge on a wasteful society. The earlier work was inspired by the book "cradle to cradle," in which McDonough and Braungart talk about "products that were made from valuable materials that required effort and expense to extract and make, billions of dollars worth of material assets. Unfortunately, all of these things are heaped in a landfill, where their value is wasted." My work incorporates these throw away landfill items and returns them to life by overtaking them with growing organisms. Sandra Osip
