Emily Weiskopf
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Fort Greene

ARTIST STATEMENT: Emily Weiskopf was born in New York and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA from the Hartford Art School and her MFA from Tyler School of Art. In various materials her work explores the notion of various cycles in which we partake in consciously and unconsciously. By using tracks, roads, and gates as universal symbols in our landscapes she attempts to challenge, propose and discover alternative tracks and paths from the everyday pre-set ways. Her large-scale and site-specific works reflect both the surroundings and their context while asking the view to consider personal relevance to the power of structure within our lives. Through imagination and selective perception she sees her work as metaphors to our relationship with the world around us – which is also what makes them personal. Her artwork has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has won residencies and awards at the Wassaic Project, Vermont Studio Center, University of Copenhagen and Artist Pension Trust, among others. She was a finalist for the 2011 Rome Prize.
