Alva CalyMayor
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Williamsburg

ARTIST STATEMENT: In my work I use humor to examine the issues of everyday life through a practice that includes printmaking, photography and work on paper.  The images I create explore objects and its given uses, figures of speech and symbolisms between the spanish and english language. Most recently I have been working on a series titled Everything is ATM, which refers to the spanish acronym "ATM," Everything Is Awesome. This line of work draws inspiration from extravagant ATM designs, animated door bolts, security systems inserted in home greenery as soft warnings. Experimenting with paper has allowed me to create structures which appear to use construction and broken glass materials I experiment with collagraph, etchings and primarily make compositions of drawings in silk aquatint.
