ARTIST STATEMENT: I paint searching for the real me, the truth about myself, I feel like I’m trapped between two lives one is back in Egypt and the other is here in America it does hold a lot of contradictions and a general sense of paradox. (Different thoughts and different concepts, different from what I used to believe in and what I was taught.) It’s like being veiled by several coatings each coating hides something in you, until you are totally different, but somehow you manage to unveil some of what have been covered over the years, and here comes the resemblance with the process I use in painting, as I use several layers of paint each layer usually covers most of what is underneath, then I begin scratching trying to explore what I made before ,some parts could be revealed and others couldn’t, creating a whole new scene of what I perceive as an unconscious print of my life, also in my grey zones paintings I try to catch these moments where I get lost where I lose the ability to identify the moment.
