Cecilia Schmidt
Brooklyn,, NY
Neighborhood: Park Slope

ARTIST STATEMENT: Cecilia Schmidt's work is imbued with a poignant sense of temporality. Although she has produced a myriad of work in varied media such as sculpture, paintings, video and photography, the common thread woven throughout is the tension between the natural environment and mediated reality, with an evocation of impermanence. Whether she is combining natural, found materials with female or animal forms, constructing miniature tableaus with birds and flowers, or Dick and Jane era dolls in lush, saturated prints, or manipulating digital images of nature taken from television and the internet, she is fascinated with time and history as a metaphor for loss.
