ARTIST STATEMENT: My mother tongue with art and design is color.
Awarded a scholarship to St Martins School of Art (aka Central St Martins), in London, I obtained a combined degree in Textile Design and Fashion. When I returned to the states I developed original textiles and surface designs primarily for the cosmetic industry. Many of the principles in printmaking are similar to fabric and surface design making an easy and natural transition for me into fine art printing in 2009.
Focused on the discovery of cause and effect, the medium used in my work is watercolor, latex paint, aniline dyes, mixed with the printmaking techniques of drypoint etching, photopolymer, embossing, and relief.
With the casual study of entomology and the works of Thomas Eisner, the German-American entomologist and ecologist, I have become intrigued to know more about the insect world. One may find something quite hideous about bugs but I choose to see beauty, horror and even love in a world that parallels our own.
