Andrew Cornell Robinson works with an array of mixed media; drawing, printmaking, and ceramics are at the core of his work. He envisions theatrical outcomes in which images and objects serves as ritual artifacts. He seeks out and materially explores stories that are personal and peculiar, ones that shed light on the people, places and things that common histories have left obscured. This is essential in a world where multiple structures are present to marginalize identities don't fit. He re-imagines personal and historical narratives through the use of personae, drawings and sculptural artifacts. If a memory, a moment in time is meant to matter symbolically or mystically, rituals and artifacts will be close at hand.
He works under the auspices of the arts and crafts research studio; a multidisciplinary workshop where he develops independent and collaborative projects explored through interdisciplinary and poetic approaches to art, design and craft.
Robinson received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York City, and he studied ceramics at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, and the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, where he received a BFA in ceramics. He lives and works in New York City.
