Connie Kottmann
Powhatan, VA
Neighborhood: Coney Island

ARTIST STATEMENT: I am in the process of rediscovering myself as an artist. Having studied art at John Dewey High School, and later clothing design at Fashion Institute of Technology, my career took a turn away from art and design. However, during those years where my professional focus has been more focused on marketing and communication, I have kept drawing, knitting and creating art. Now, I am rediscovering the art that I used to produce on a daily basis as a kid growing up in Coney Island. Though I live many miles away, the sea still intrigues me, and New York City still inspires me. My world has gotten bigger, and I have found other beaches that I love, but I have rediscovered my Brooklyn roots and hope in the coming years to continue to return to NYC to gain more artistic inspiration. I work in several mediums: digital art (iPad), watercolor, graphite and pen sketching, colored pencils, and acrylics. My subjects include seascapes, landscapes and illustrations.
