ARTIST STATEMENT: Things like poetry, ancient myths, history and so forth have contributed to translate my state of mind into visual expression. In recent times my style has evolved from expressionism to a more abstract form of expression, at times combined with recognizable scribble-like elements.
My most recent body of work stems from a longstanding fascination with ancient myths and their uncanny depiction of human nature. It is remarkable that little has changed in thousands of years, most evident in the wake of the recent global financial collapse. The myth of Midas, who despite the power he already has as king chooses greed, thus sealing his fate.
Icarus was warned not to get too close to the sun lest the wax holding his wings together melt. But he becomes so exhilarated by his flying ability that he forgets these warnings and recklessly flies near the sun only to plunge into the ocean when his wings melt.
Using these ancient myths as a starting point, I have developed a personal esthetic where the richness of the visual expression transforms the content from a narrative to a visual experience It is my hope that the style and expressive qualities of my work will be the primary element that engages the viewer.
