Daniel Wiener
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Boerum Hill

Media:Sculptural;

ARTIST STATEMENT: I tend to think of all of my work as amphibious, inhabiting the dualities of artistic production: accident and composition, selection and serendipity, shaping and entropy. This inclusiveness does not stem from indecision, rather from a belief in the impure, the synthesized and the mixed-up. Such flexibility is possible in part because of my chosen medium, Apoxie-Sculpt. There are instances of raw abandon in large gestures—materials pulled and torn—and at the same time there are instances of intense focus on delicate patterns. Color, shape and texture become synthesized in the process, ultimately creating an object that is both abstract and naturalistic, both sculpture and furniture.
