ARTIST STATEMENT: Through this selection of photographs I intend on assimilating notions of natural beauty through the mechanisms of photography and subjective intrusion. A camera is able to capture the image of something beautiful, however it can only reproduce what is in front of it. To plant this brainless box upon the Earth is nothing more than procedure, a way to document a tangible fragment of the world. The natural environment is a realm of raw material where I am able to enter and claim authorship. This rural landscape contains imperfections within its given aspects of allure, where the camera may not understand its aesthetic potential. My intentions are not to create a perfectly resolved photograph of what is or is not beautiful, but a reaction to such details. To project my emotional response, I physically approach the environment and synthetically emphasize its features through an injection of pigment, or a possible subtractive intervention. The modifications I choose to make are reliant on personal experience with the landscape, influenced by the bombardment of everyday images, a mundane fabrication of the collective. The mediated hyperrealistic fabrication I construct is merely an articulation of a subjective aesthetic comfort.
