ARTIST STATEMENT: Over the past few years I have been inventing a lexicon of quasi-abstract forms that inhabit an interstitial realm halfway between real and imaginary worlds. Reminiscent in part of actual objects but pulled back to abstraction through a lack of reference to a figure ground, these shapes combine and recombine to create a visual banter that can be, at turns, both comical and uncanny.
Originally beginning as a series of small drawings shown together, my body of work has evolved to include larger-scale paintings, works on paper, prints, sculpture and installations that share the same cast of characters. Paintings, prints and drawings hang on walls, sculptures rest on floors or hang from ceilings in dynamic installations that playfully engage the viewer in a panoply of distinct voices.
