Louise Barry
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Bedford-Stuyvesant

ARTIST STATEMENT: I work in multiple media, including drawing, photography, installation, and video. My work concerns the relationship of the individual to the physical environment, and our relationship to reality as mediated through different kinds of images, but particularly photography. I’m interested in paying attention to the processes of working, learning, and creating, and in using amateurism as a conceptual strategy. I am a collector of used objects and discarded images, which become part of my work. I see myself as preserving and re-interpreting elements of the past, as well as finding new uses and meanings for the surplus of images our culture has produced.
