ARTIST STATEMENT: I am a self-trained artist who specializes in graphic design and graffiti art.
I was born in 1977 to Dominican immigrants and I am a native of Brooklyn, New York.
I am inspired by 1980s Marvel Comics and Anime like Voltron and Transformers; hip hop and graffiti pioneers like Dondi CIA, Seen UA, Cope2 KD, and Cerve BYI; as well as revolutionaries like Martin Luther King Jr., Che Guevara, Malcolm X, and Huey P. Newton, I create images that resonate with and harken back to glory days gone by.
In addition to recreating Cold War propaganda images from Russia, Korea, China, and Cuba, I mix urban and political flavors that are rarely touched upon in pop culture.
I remain in touch with the reality of the world that surrounds and inspires me. As a result, I fill my works with images that are precise, chaotic, and sometimes dark poetic statements of people looking for hope and change.
When I design something I feel as if I need to design something truthful. I am not afraid to depict a reality that will leave an impact on whoever sees it, whether it's positive or negative. I want to leave the viewer thinking.
