Abby G Goldstein
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Boerum Hill

ARTIST STATEMENT: Bits of visual data crisscross the picture plane implying patterns of nature, habitation, travel, and organic detritus. Using a myriad of marks, meandering and intertwining lines that allude to topographic maps and establishes a sense of a place without being in a specific location. I am fascinated by the graphic way natural and made pathways transverse a landscape. My inspiration derives from hiking, observation, and use of local and historic maps of cities and places I live in and visit. An integral element in my working process is finding a meditative response to my physical and emotional environment. To let go of preconceived ideas along with any fear, anger, hope and desire and surrender to the process. The challenge is to go off the path, lose control, and revel in the unanticipated twists and turns. The dread of not knowing and the thrill of finding is the satisfaction of the journey.
