Melanie Kozol
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Clinton Hill

ARTIST STATEMENT: Melanie Kozol draws energy from nature, music and the painting process. Her landscapes explore the boundaries between representation and abstraction. Working from plein air studies, photographic documentation and memory, Kozol investigates the place where light and color come together to create a space between memory and experience. This collection of work is based on two separate trips. In the summer of 2015, I had a residency on a sailboat that traveled around the Shetland Islands in the North Sea of Scotland. During the summer of 2016, I traveled to China. For both trips I sketched, painted and photographed on site. The paintings presented here are some of the works created from these two trips.
