Brian Higbee
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: East Williamsburg

ARTIST STATEMENT: I make paintings that use personal experiences of loss and disappointment as a basis for meditation and reflection. These experiences manifest themselves in my paintings as both the imagined landscape/object and within the titles as fragments of conversation. By placing these two seemingly separate elements together, I'm able to create a narrative outside of the viewer's immediate experience, leaving the painting as both a remnant of the artist's distant memory and as an object for quiet contemplation.

Brian Higbee was born and raised in the mountains of Pennsylvania and has been living in Brooklyn for the past 12 years. As well as being the founder and leading member of the Associated Artists for Propaganda Research, he is also a member of Art Codex, The Pavilion of the American Resistance, Future Living Projects and director of The Lost Estate of Ed “Johnson” Shepard. He has exhibited at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, PS 122, Rotunda Gallery, Here Art, ABC No Rio, Governor's Island and the Islip Art Museum. He is also the recipient of 2 grants from the Puffin Foundation.
