ARTIST STATEMENT: My works often work with color as a progressive harmonic movement and rhythm within the work's structure. Others reflect something felt purely visually. I explore that which gives us light, a light we are compelled to share in stories, understanding and wonder. I will alter space to allow objects to present themselves as they do in our minds rather than the camera of our eyes. I will use blocks of structural shapes to build a design. The manipulation of old magazines, books and image sources allowed me to pull my media from other peoples' trash which inspires resourcefulness and an excitement of creating something from nothing. Most of my collages are made up of several hundred separate pieces of paper with carefully chosen image, color and structural properties. I am self taught and work deliberately. My other favored medium is pencils. I prefer portraits because the subtle beauty of facial expression is endless because of our acute sensitivity to it. I will work with watercolor and acrylic and combine media. I also will work digitally using what I have learned from other mediums.
