ARTIST STATEMENT: Found objects speak to me with their latent potential to surprise and breathe new life. I believe the objects that I collect are “small” only by perceptual consensus; they can in fact expand to fill macroscopic spaces in the mind’s eye. For me, the act of creating these pieces is similar to writing poetry: I am combining disparate objects in unexpected amalgams which intimate ideas or narratives, yet remain in a liminal zone open to interpretation. As I work, I bear witness to an alchemical transformation that occurs through a dialogue between the objects. The process of assembling objects is profoundly permutational: the possible combinations and their unique results are infinite in the realm of potentiality. To me it feels as though, through a confluence of events and decisions–a synchronicity of sorts–the piece blooms out of this potential into a surprising and complete actuality.
