ARTIST STATEMENT: This body of work is part of a series that I began creating at the beginning of 2012. The images are an exploration of the vessel. The images are cyanotype photograms printed on cotton rag paper. Unlike camera-based photography, the photogram records the subject onto the paper directly making an impression in perfect detail. The appearance of depth is due to the multiple layers of the string pressed onto the page. Being able to depict the relationship of the object to paper feels immediate and organic to me. Each image is entirely unique, toeing the line between photography and drawing. The materials are selected for their simplicity. The string I use is both strong and fibrous but also soft and fluid, arranged to create one continuous line. I strive to create a perfect order to the chaotic nature of a ball of string.
