Jade Yumang
Brooklyn, NY

ARTIST STATEMENT: Jade Yumang casually has affairs with different visual strategies. Respecting the past, but refusing to be an insider, he rarely commits long term to a certain technique and its baggage of historical and theoretical weight to avoid any linear trappings. However, he is addicted to laborious processes – exhaustive reiterations and endurances – to exorcise form in relation to beauty, phenomenology, Kantian indifference, and post-AIDS crisis ethos. Relationships include printmaking, sculpture, installation, and performance as a way to see how the body resists or submits through materiality and technique relating to obsessive acts, strict parameters, repetition, and forms of discipline. His compulsiveness to place things in order in reality breaks into pieces that expose the pressure placed on non-conforming bodies and their values.
