Neighborhood: Dumbo

ARTIST STATEMENT: I am interested in the aggregate of time, accumulation, and association. When I create drawings and paintings I pull visual instance of interest from multiple environments and combine them into a new composition. There is deconstruction of the known to create new worlds within the paintings. The paintings are created through an initial layer of charcoal, pastels, and markers – followed by acrylic paint – and often finished with a layer of oil paint. When I create assemblages, I deconstruct my paintings (works I created between 8 -10 years ago); taking pieces of dismantled “successful” paintings, recycled “failed” paintings and trimmings of still existing paintings. In these instances I am deconstructing the worlds I created and exploring a new possibility.
