Michael M Mut
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Brooklyn Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: From a very early age I've been interested in art as an instinctive therapy for healing a deep sense of melancholy and loneliness. I started painting as a way to investigate my feelings and in turn it helped me on a path to loving myself. I studied business, fashion, and became a licensed hair stylist to earn a living. In my spare time I enrolled in various art courses in photography, design and painting. I remember the first time I saw Cy Twombly’s work, I ran home and painted my own version of it until the next day. Ever since then I haven’t been able to stop. Though my work can be visually beautiful, it also speaks to my deeper relationship to humanity and my awareness of my deeper self. Even today I feel a strong connection to my roots as I continue to share my quest for self awareness with others. One of the core missions in my work is spreading the message of “loving oneself.” And as my love for myself grows, so does my love for all living things. In turn this self awareness is channeled through my creative process. My projects aim to inspire the masses by establishing a common ground for all. As a way to further develop this idea of connection, I began incorporating recycled materials and found objects into larger installational works that speak to human relationships; a universal pursuit of unconditional love. Art has helped me to grow spiritually and intellectually. It is now my mission to give back by uplifting and inspiring others with my art.
