My work extracts art historical forms, styles, and applications, and reshapes them into a new language contained within the framework of a future museum. Creating imaginary structures through which my work would be formatted, displayed, and critiqued years in the future allows me to play outsides the confines of current criticism. My paintings, drawings, collages, and sculptures consist of dense accumulations of lush patterned imagery, built up into unresolved, spinning hypermateriality that does not often allow the eye to rest. Still, there are moments of carefully planned connections that seep up through these layers, offering themselves up as respite in a hallucinatory sea.
The museum of the future frames my work as a memoir—as the story of me that shapes its own circulation and eliminates repetition, until the interpretation of the work is so blatant and forceful that it becomes the work itself. I am freed to be the caretaker, gardener, garbage man, and space manager of my own visual estate, reasserting opacity through false myth and obfuscation, cheerfully admitting paradoxes and rejecting absolutes, submitting to subjectivity while denying a place within universal history.
