Daniel Allegrucci
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Crown Heights

Media:Sculptural;

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I'm currently creating wall hanging sculptures with wood, found clothing, natural fibers and lights that acknowledge the experience of irrational and perhaps unknowable psychological spaces. I'm interested in the significance of such spaces in the context of accelerating science and technology.

By combining indications of commercial culture and the natural world I'm seeking a combined sense of longing and dread. I believe our rational selves are built on top of a bedrock of these uncanny combinations of conflicting impulses.

An infinity mirror uses a shallow physical space to create an endless visual passage. Each reflected copy of the original space is progressively diminished as it recedes towards oblivion. This phenomenon of fading duplication evokes processes of memory and identity construction. It also suggests printmaking with its possibilities of the multiple as well "ghost" images.
