ARTIST STATEMENT: Margaret Maclean's paintings evoke a mixture of horror and pleasure in the viewer. Fascinated with woman's role in religion and myth she plays with imagery that translates an idea of hideous/sublime, beautiful/evil, parallel characteristics that have been ascribed over and over to the female sex throughout history.
