Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Greenpoint

ARTIST STATEMENT: Questions about transformation reoccur in my creative practice. My involvement began through performance, from playing guitar on stage, to creating private video performances about identity and the sense of the public and private self. In the past few years my focus has moved away from the personal consciousness of the body, to the transformation of sculptural material. Wood, concrete, metal, and textile processes inform my studio work. Lately I’ve been drawn to found driftwood and some of these natural wood elements, so I’ve been taking them back to the studio. Part of my current practice is really spending time and looking at them carefully. I consider the intrinsic qualities that I want to enhance and those that I want to change, elevating and altering these forgotten botanical memory blocks.
