Andrea Caldarise
Brooklyn, NY
Neighborhood: Crown Heights

ARTIST STATEMENT: Andrea Caldarise’s art explores the perception and movement through urban environments. In the mediums of collage and painting, she expresses the specificity felt in a city environment, contrasted with the elusive quality of memories. When experiencing a cityspace, the importance of a particular place is established and then revisited in her artwork. The process of referring back to a memory, and then to the actual space creates a tension of new and old, remembered versus imagined resulting in a composite image built from different sources. Each painting is singular place experience, inspired by referencing the people, emotions, sights and textures of a place. Caldarise’s art focuses on connecting audiences with an urban space, capturing the experience of discovery, and recreating a place through memory and imagination.
