Neighborhood: Gowanus

Genre:Figurative;

ARTIST STATEMENT: Whatever we decide dreams ultimately mean, they at least astound us by their manifold generosity. Their stories and imagery compel our attention; bother us into ascribing meaning to them. In my work I have followed the call of figural and narrative images. As with dreams, I think of these images in relation to the world. They are my way of showing our shared experiences - the inner, under-surface of the skin of the world: presidential elections, refugee crises, a culture of fleeting reactions tweeted and posted that drown us in shallow puddles of clamor, the free clear light of happiness and dread of its loss. Would that art were an engine of happiness, or permanent assuager of problems – I work now only wishing this still could be so. To that end I stay tuned in for a deeper image. If I am lucky, I accept it, and then do what I can to facilitate its potential alchemy.
