Nic Freberg F Morgan
Brooklyn, NY

ARTIST STATEMENT: //// here are some rough notes on what I've been thinking about in relation to this output /// I believe in the power and process of painting as a unique tool for articulating complicated or emotionally heavy truths/realizations. I employ aesthetic hierarchies, symbolic languages rooted in emotion, and a yearning for archetypal understanding of my place in various orders and my own unfolding within these frameworks. I suppose I walk the path of the seeker, the curious mind, and admirer of beauty: I focus more on my gut design instincts and try to keep it as simple as possible given the rather complicated, and heavy tasks at hand. I finally begin to arrive at a composition that fills the rectangle in that juicy kind of way when the right balance of idiosyncrasy, contradiction, structural tension, and incremental resolution adds up to something which oftentimes holds many messages wrapped into a small, simple portrait or landscape, or both. I look for aesthetic overlaps, united or disconnected threads (purposefully upsetting these connections), and daily evolving as an ever more skilled and experienced artist. I like the idea of devoting my entire life to a skill set that will only keep growing, and gives me as much back as I put into it. I want to develop mastery over my craft: as a storyteller, myth maker, lover of beauty and sensuality, and seeker of truth and the sublime.
